Finnish history, national identity and culture have also been a considerable part of Timo T.A.
Mikkonen's work as a TV-historian. Spring 1995 he designed a special exhibition called "Finland
at War- Honor to the Veterans of 1939-1945".The exhibition was held in Stockmann
department store. Year 1982 Timo T.A. Mikkonen wrote his first book about Finnish TV-history,
the semi autobiographical book titled "A Glorious Future Behind" (WSOY). His second book,
"Most Beautiful Women in Finland - the beauty gueens 1933-2000" was published 2000, also
by WSOY. “For Future Leaders about Leadership” (editor) was published and “Eastbound
thoughts” (own articles) were published 2006.
Since early 1970's Timo T.A. Mikkonen has also successfully performed as a singer and
entertainer. He has made many recordings and been a popular dance floor performer all over
Finland. He was voted second as Man of Finland in two national polls ("Telvis" and "Favorite
Man of the Year") in 1971.
Timo T. A. Mikkonen has actively gone in for sports ever since his childhood. On top of his TVcareer
he ran 1500 meters under 4 minutes in 1975 and the Helsinki City Marathon in 3 hours
30 minutes in 1994. During 1979-1982 he was co-driver for late legendary rally driver Henri
Toivonen in many Finnish rally events.
Timo T.A. Mikkonen has also been a figure in radio broadcasting for 30 years. His founded
1990 a local radio station "Radio 103,4", which did specialize in country music and broadcasted
in southern Finland.
Over decades Timo T.A. Mikkonen has been an active participator in National Defense work and
has been involved in developing e.g. the information warfare of the Finnish Armed Forces. His
military rank is Major in Reserve and he was given a Military Medal For Merit in 1986, Golden
National Defense Medal in 2001 and Finnish Defense Forces Silver Award 2007. Timo T.A.
Mikkonen has lectured media war courses f.ex. in National Defense University, Border Guards
School and Reserve Officer School.
Timo T.A. Mikkonen is also a pioneer in the field of publicity training and business
communications expertise. The latter has always accounted for a substantial part of Timo T.A.
Mikkonen Group's operations. The TV-series "Hard field" and "Entrepreneur -TV" for Channel
Four, which amount to over 200 shows during 1997-99, are first of their kind in Finland.
Timo T.A. Mikkonen was awarded with the Golden Cross of Merit of the Society of Finnish
Entrepreneurs in 1998, "for pioneer work in the field of media and communications
entrepreneurship for two decades".
Timo T.A. Mikkonen is married with Master Hairstylist Nina Mikkonen. They have two children,
Mikael Tapio Antero, born 2002 and Matias Timo Anshelm, born 2003. Mr. Mikkonen has two
children from his previous marriage, son Tero (born 1971) and daughter Terhi (born 1978). In
2009 they appeared all in 8 part reality tv- and dvd-series ”It´s The Mikkonens´ World”.
Timo T.A. Mikkonen has, through his TV-shows, brought such words, concepts and sayings as
"crisis", "show", "media", "yesterdays errors today's challenges", "glorious future behind",
"today, here and now" and "late night" to the lips of Finns, into headlines and public debate.
